Seismic Swarm in Southwestern Coast of Puerto Rico

April 1, 2003

     The Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN) registered a seismic swarm of a total of 40 earthquakes, between March 22 and 26, 2003. This swarm was generated in the Southwestern Region of Puerto Rico, from the western coast of Cabo Rojo to the coast of Lajas. Of these 40 earthquakes, the PRSN located a total of 26; the other 14 quakes were not recorded by enough stations to be located. The magnitude of the seismic events ranged from 1.6 to 4.1 and their depths from 0.8 to 17.9 km. Eight of the earthquakes in the swarm were felt in the western side of Puerto Rico. No damage has been reported associated with any of the seismic events of this seismic swarm. Below is a list of the felt earthquakes:
